Blackboard "Need-to-know" Tips - Vol. 3; 2004 - 2005

* Did you know you can edit your course materials from the same view that the students see?
Try clicking a content button like Course Information. Click the “Edit View” in the upper right. You will see all the editing tools you normally see in the Instructor’s Control Panel. Now you can edit, then go directly back to the “Display View” to see just what the students will see!

* Do you need to copy or reorganize your Blackboard content?
To move content around within a course site:

1) Go to the Content Area of your course site (such as: Course Information, Course Documents, or Assignments) (NOTE: You must be in the “Edit View” or in the Control Panel).
2) Click “Copy”.
3) Choose the Browse button then choose from the course map that pops up where you would like the content to be copied to and click “Submit”.
4) Choose whether or not you would like the material to be removed from its original location then click “Submit”.

To move content from one course to another:

1) Go to the source course from which you would like to copy materials.
2) Go to the Control Panel.
3) Under the “Course Options” heading, choose “Copy Course”.
4) Select the second item to copy materials into an existing course.
5) Click the Browse button, then the Search button to search for the course to which you would like to copy materials, and click Select.
6) Click the box next to the areas you would like to have copied. (Please note: this is an additive process. If the same file already exists in the course to which you are copying, Blackboard will make a second copy of the material within that course.
7) Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Submit.

* Would you like the buttons on your Blackboard course to better reflect the content you have?
You can change the wording of your buttons, remove un-used ones, or add additional buttons.
To do this, go to your course Control Panel. Click “Manage Course Menu” to see a list of the buttons for your course.

- Choose the Modify button next to a button you would like to re-name.
- Choose Remove if you have no content under this button and would like it to be removed, however, CAUTION: removing a button will remove all content associated with that button!!
- If you would like a button to not be visible to the students, but would like to keep content there for later, choose Modify and then select “No” after “Make available to Students”.
- Choose from the “Add” options at the top of the page to add other buttons or tools.
